Matterhorn
- Live at the Odeon - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- Recorded live at the Odeon club in Cleveland, Ohio in the
summer of 1995. This version of the song from the Hilario
CD was a favourite show opener for many years. Thanks to the
Tragically Hip for helping us catch this one on their primo
recording rig.

The
Prince Remix - Hilario - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This is a remix of the first song from our first tape, 'Darn
Foul Dog'. The Hilario CD is a compilation of several of our
first recordings. The original version is on the CD, but Mike
recorded this one by himself using pots and pans to create
a completely different effect.

Derailleur
- Brave New Waves Session - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- CBC's late night music show, Brave New Waves, was always
a great supporter of the band. Recorded at a session in their
Montreal studios, this version of the song from Hilario has
a slightly more polished sound. This was one of the first
times for the band in a really serious studio, but the results
may reflect the unique influence of the old-school CBC engineer
running the show.

The
Any Sense of Time Remix - Kombinator- MP3 |
|
Highlights
- When the band signed a U.S. record deal, the first thing
they wanted to see was a 'radio ready' version of 'Any Sense
of Time' from the Kombinator record. This would involve getting
a remix put together from one of several producers considered
including Andy Wallace and the Dust Brothers. We made the
decision to go with Jim Rondinelli because of his work with
Matthew Sweet. The resulting track was used for the video
for this song, and appeared on our UK single.

Don't
Try So Hard - Kombinator - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This is the regular version of the song available on the
album. Recorded on Tuesday, August 2, 1994, this marked a
turning point in the making of this record. After a couple
days of spinning wheels, this song set the tone for a night
of recording that would yield final versions of 'Any Sense
of Time', 'You Will Know', 'Kombinator', 'Dangerous', and
'Turn My Head'.

Round
12 (Live in Calgary - Feburary 1997) - Kombinator - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This is a great live version of this song recorded during
the band's winter tour with the Rheostatics in 1997. For this
tour, the Rheostatics brought a full multi-track recording
system that allowed them to create their 'Double Live' album.
For most nights, the tapes were running when The Inbreds played
as well, and this song was captured thanks to the efforts
of Mr. Don Kerr.

Wind
Picks Up - It's Sydney or the Bush - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This is the regular version of the song available on the
album. This song was the subject of an aborted attempt at
a third video from this record. The footage of three-legged
racing that formed the basis for the clip may yet see the
light of day.

Reason
Why I'm Shy - It's Sydney or the Bush - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This is the regular version of the song available on the
album. Obscure reference here is that the drum loop at the
beginning of the song was created by DJ Moves, from Hip Club
Groove, after feeding a clip of Mike playing a toy drum kit
into his old school sampler.

Never
Be The Same (Remix) - Winning Hearts - MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This version of the song is the product of a rainy afternoon
when Dave was alone with the mixing board and master reels
at the Gas Station. This version gives a good chance to hear
the sound of the studio piano being plucked like a huge xylophone.

 |
Right
Time to Say Goodbye Remix- Winning Hearts- MP3 |
|
Highlights
- This song is another alternate resulting from Dave's session
with the Gas Station board. A phantom drum track on this song
gave the very desirable echo effect that was straight out
of the Jimmy Page trickbook. Pure luck.
